Easter Podcast Special

The one weekend that David was around to co-host the show with me, the studio was shut. Boo!

So we got together over the Easter break and recorded a podcast, just like the old days. As well as bringing along a batch of great songs David brought his guitar and performed on of songs, which I took the liberty of filming:

If you enjoyed that and are in or around the St. Albans area, then pop down to The Mermaid on Hatfield Road (its directly opposite Oaklands college) this Wednesday (the 27th) at 8:30, where he will be headlining and performing a half hour set. His sets are always hilarious and great fun to experience, so please do come along.

And thats yer lot! I shall be back in the studio this coming Saturday (the 30th) from 10am. It will be a new music special featuring music via the brilliant web campaign The Luton Scene, and hopefully its creator Natalie Mason will be available for a chat about the project too.

Hope you've had a great Easter and haven't overdone it on the chocolates! See you Saturday
Alex

16th April 2011...Sort Of

Well this show was a disaster! With it being Easter everyone had gone home and I found the computer that we use to run everything had been switched off! No knowing the Password, I plugged in my laptop and did the best I could without it, not knowing what was going on the air. And with all the system down, I was unable to record the show, so mercifully there is no evidence of this show! But for those that missed the show, I give you this, the song's playlist. Seek them out via YouTube and picture me scrambling around trying frantically to get things working again!

Also, just to let you all know there will be no show next weekend as the station is shut for Easter weekend. Instead David and I are going to record an hour long version of the show in podcast form just like the old days. He will be bringing his guitar along and singing songs about Charlie Sheen, among other things. See you next week, enjoy the music!

On this show I was joined in the studio by my friend Kathleen and over the course of two hours we had songs about gay pirates and a club for villains, a chat with David about an innovative new use for Guitar Hero controllers, silly news stories and the stupidity of Manchester City player Mario Balotelli, a brand new song from Jane's Addiction's upcoming album, and Kathleen's repeated mentions of Cherry Lube.

Also, I captured the moment I gave Kathleen her birthday present for your viewing pleasure:

There were mentions of a few community projects being championed by Radio LaB and its presenters. Firstly, Radio LaB itself have been inviting local poets to record audio versions of their work. If you would like to listen, or are a poet in the Luton area and would like your work featured, please go to the Radio LaB website.

And secondly, one woman has seemed to have heard our collective cries that there is no real representation for local bands and artists in the Luton area. Natalie Mason has set up a project called The Luton Scene which champions new, unsigned acts from and around Luton. Please take the time to check out its Facebook, YouTubeTwitter, Soundcloud or Blog, this is a great concept and is helping to promote many great up and coming acts.

Also featured: an example of Radio LaB's new Poetry From The Community Project and highlights from the first (and hopefully last!) Radio LaB Rap-Off between host of The Lunchbox Tor and one of our managers (and host of Monday's edition of The Guest List) Connor Hughes.

I hope you like it, I think its the best one yet! Just as a side note, there will not be a show next Saturday as I will be attending this, but I will be back the following Saturday on April 16th.

See you all in two weeks!

Bit of a rock heavy one, this. In this epsode we see me go through a serious of trials and muck ups where my CDs won't work, I forget to turn my fader off during a song and the CD itself skipping.

Also featured is a phone conversation with David about silly news stories &  Pac Man dresses (yes you read that correctly, Pac Man dresses), a block of new music from Thom Yorke, The Smashing Pumpkins, Duran Duran and more, the UK radio premier of YouTube sensation Rebecca Black's Friday, my continuing struggle not speak into the mic too loudly (and failing, mostly) and a studio invasion!

Just as a note, the first few minutes are from before the show started, so fast forward to 3:26. Or don't, if you wanna hear some Abba.

Enjoy!
