This show was interesting to say the least. I had my best friend, one Jamie Slough (himself a presenter at the University of Hertfordshire's Crush Radio), in the studio with me, which was very fun. But we almost didn't have a show! A paperwork issue (ie lack of it) meant the security guard wasn't aware that I was going to be there, therefore he wouldn't let me into the building, despite pleas from two of our managers. But, being the stubborn sod that I am, I simply went back into the building through another entrance and went into the studio! (Shh, don't tell my manager)
It was also a pretty good week for Radio LaB itself, as the station was featured as Student Station Of The Week on the Steve Lamacq show on BBC 6 Music. There was an interview with Laura, one of our managers, and a 90 second trailer of our shows, featuring a recording from this shows bagpipes incident! To listen to it, click here and start playing it at the 1:43 mark.
This weeks show featured a selection of new music from unsigned acts courtesy of The Luton Scene, and also an interview with its creator Natalie Mason. This is a great project and is helping to get acts in and around Luton noticed and help get the music scene in the area strong again. Please check out its Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Blog and Soundcloud pages and check out the bands, including Natalie's own band Dead Cells.
Now, regarding the recording of the show itself. A technical issue meant that only hour two ended up getting recorded, but thats better than having no recording at all! Its a big shame as Dow McKeever, the man who archives and produces this show, had asked me to play a song of his that his wife had written, and I did...in the first hour! So I shall be playing it next week to make sure the woman who sings on the song, Christel Guarnieri, can hear her song get played on the radio. Also missing is a great conversation between Jamie, myself, and David with featured a bunch of silly news stories, and David's song pick, Silver by A Hundred Reasons. Again, shall play that next week to make up for it.
A big thank you to to Natalie for coming on the show to talk to us and to Jamie for coming to the studio (and showing me how to control the sound levels for my booming voice), I hope they'll both be back on the show soon.
Alex
